Aim: To provide the opporunity for students to gain abilities in system design, prototyping and application building by working in a simulated team environment on a database solution to a given user problem. Learning Outcome Knowledge
Objectives:
*1 Demonstrate an understanding of simple process and data analysis techniques and their place in the development of business applications.
2 Demonstrate an awareness of Interactive System Design.
3 Demonstrate and understand the role of HCI in system development.
Abilities:
5 Build a prototype to aid in the design and development of an application.
6 Produce the outline design of a business application using basic design techniques.
7 Implement that application on a relational database.
8 Apply some human factors relevant to information systems development.
9 Work effectively within a simulated team environment. Indicative Content Students will be able to use the knowledge imparted in this module to design via prototyping and simple data and process analysis a straightforward business system and then implement it using a relational database. Issues to do with the interactive nature of such systems and the importance of the user interface will be stressed. Teaching, Learning and Assessment The learning outcomes will be achieved through open learning study and directed reading by means of the work book material. Abilities will be developed through the analysis of a given problem leading to agreed user requirements being realised as a database end product.
Assessments will include evaluation of peer work, critical appraisal of part worked database solution and an open book extended examination.
