About Us
Computing and Technology at the University of Sunderland occupies two main sites, one in the centre of the City and the other on a riverside site. We are a large school with over 2000 students.
The School provides flexible access for students to more than 600 high specification workstations supporting PC, UNIX (SUN) and POWERPC operation and a wide range of engineering facilities. The Informatics Centre at the St. Peter's Campus is one of the most modern and best-equipped computing environments in Europe.
The School has a distinguised tradition of teaching engineering and is recognised as a centre of excellence in automotive technology and manufacturing. Strong links with Nissan, the most efficent car plant in Europe, and with a vast range of North East companies have been central to the development of this reputation.

Innovative Teaching
The School operates innovative teaching at all levels from HNC to PhD. Computing subjects include information systems, software engineering, programming languages, business IT, multi-media, mathematical modelling or more technical computing areas. The engineering discipline includes automotive, mechanical, communications engineering and engineering management, with technology offering project management and broadcast and multimedia technology.
Demand for Graduates
Demand from employers continues to be very strong. The overwhelming majority of IT and Engineering students gain jobs very quickly after graduating. Starting salaries are well above average and experienced IT, technology and engineering professionals are among the UK's top ten earners.

The School of Computing and Technology offers a comprehensive portfolio of training and services to meet the ever demanding needs of the business community. By providing expertise and support for industry, particularly small firms in the northern region our Reach Out activities can offer flexible expert solutions through collaboration, consultancy, training and research.
Research
We have a strong and well-established commitment to research in a range of computing, engineering and technology areas. In the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise the school was rated 3A for Computer Science and 3B for General Engineering, and continues to improve in both quantity and quality of research.
